Sardar Vallabhai Patel Police Museum

A true dedication to the history and evolution of the Indian police force, the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Police Museum is the only such museum in India

Situated directly across Kollam Railway Station, it is dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, dubbed the ‘Iron Man of India’, who was once former deputy prime minister and served as home minister at different points of his highly successful political career apart from being a barrister and statesman. The museum has a Martyr’s Gallery. It traces the use of firearms, ammunition, machines and other weapons through the 18th and 19th centuries.

All of these artefacts are kept in an old mansion with four courtyards, one of which exhibits information about investigations, including fingerprint and DNA evidence, photos of police dogs and a variety of medals given to police officers of various ranks. The museum was put together to raise awareness about the efforts of the police force by an officer of the Indian Police Force, B Sandhya, who was then Inspector General.
