Champions Boat League - The Water Festival that Peps up the Sportive Spirit of Kollam

As the festival of Onam approaches, the backwaters in Kerala reverberate with zest and enthusiasm. The ‘Chundan Vellam’s (Snake Boat) ripple through the backwaters in Central and South Kerala.  Close on the heels of the  Champakulam Moolam Boat Race, Kerala backwaters have once again set the ground for the Champions Boat League (CBL), modelled after the Indian Premier League. Kollam district will play host to this magnificent ‘Vallam Kalli’, the sports event having a history of over 400 years.  Boat races will be held on the Kallada River and Ashtamudi Lake.

The CBL will end with the President’s Trophy Boat Race held in Ashtamudi Lake. The race which is usually held in November will start from the water column near the Thevally Palace and ends at the houseboat terminal.
