Ithikkara remains relatively untouched by the chaos of modern life. Originating in the dense forests of Kulathupuzha in the Western Ghats, the 56-kilometre-long Ithikkara River is a major feeder of Paravur Lake. It empties into the brackish lake before entering the Arabian Sea. The village of Ithikkara is located 15 kilometres from the port of Kollam. The river also flows through the settlements of Chathannoor and Pooyappally.
